Briton Ferry Health Centre

Appointments

The practice offers the same day consultations for children under 16 with acute presentations and any patients that are clinically triaged requiring an urgent assessment.

There are two ways that you can speak to a GP:

Same-day Appointments

Most of our appointments are same-day appointments. These become available from 8am. There are two ways that these can be booked:

  • AskmyGP. Simply log-in to AskmyGP and select the “Consult with a GP today” button. Use an online form
  • By phoning the Practice on 01639 825265 from 8am.

All same-day requests will be triaged by a GP. You may be signposted to an alternative service such as a community pharmacy or physiotherapy.

We try to maintain continuity of care, but this may not be possible depending on availability.

Once all same-day slots have been taken you will be unable to request to speak to a GP that day, except for urgent issues. You will however be offered the chance of booking an appointment in the future or, if you would rather, calling back another day.

Pre-booked Appointments

The Practice is now offering pre-bookable Telephone GP appointments also. From 1st October 2025 you have the choice of having a phone or face-to-face appointment. You can chose which GP you would like to speak to depending on availability. Again, there are two ways that these can be booked:

  • AskmyGP. Simply log-in to AskmyGP and select the “Book with a GP in the future” button. You can submit a request 24/7. Use an online form
  • By phoning the Practice on 01639 825265 between 8am and 6:30pm

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email.

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means the doctor or nurse can help you sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel or change your appointment:

If you miss a booked appointment you will be sent a DNA (Did Not Attend) letter detailing the details of the appointment missed.  If you receive 3 letters within a 12 month period you will be automatically removed from the practice register, which will mean you need to register with a new GP practice.

This policy is in place to protect the practice and patients from patients who are habitual non-attendees and take up appointments from other patients who need them.

If you need help when we are closed

If the situation is an emergency or life threatening, dial 999 and ask for an ambulance.

For urgent medical advice between 6.30pm and 8.30am weekdays, or during weekends and Bank Holidays, use NHS 111 Wales.

For children under 5 phone 111.

For people aged 5 and over go to the 111.wales.nhs.uk website.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • If there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond.
  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email.
  • If you need an interpreter.
  • If you have any other access or communication needs.

Home visits

If you require a home visit for yourself or someone you care for, please contact the surgery via AskmyGP or ring on 01639 825265 before 11.00 am if possible.

Home visits are for patients who are medically unable to attend the surgery or are housebound.  Home visits are usually carried out anytime between 12.00 pm to 15.00 pm, unless the doctor determines an urgent visit is required.

Please provide as much information as possible regarding your medical problem when requesting a home visit in order for the doctor to determine the urgency of the call.  You will also be asked to confirm your address and telephone number to ensure that the doctor visits the correct address.
